Hipsters, Punks, Artists— Oh, My!
Nearly everything has changed since I came to Arcadia as a wide-eyed, naive 17-year-old. I have different friends, different hobbies, different jobs. The two semesters I spent abroad, although incredible, weakened the connection I feel with both the Arcadia community and Philadelphia at large. However, there is one Philly event that I’ve somehow managed to attend every year of my college career: the Punk Rock Flea Market.
Held two or three times annually, the Rock Flea Market stuffs hundreds of “punk” vendors into a colossal warehouse, then lets the madness unfold. Wares include anything and everything, from well-loved records to animal bones to original art. Some of the items on sale are truly valuable, vintage collectibles; others are basically punk junk. In truth, only one certainty remains when you’re at the Punk Rock Flea Market: You never know what you’ll find.
