Unplug From the Phone and Plug into Nature
My spot near The Pit.
Sometimes our daily lives can get so hectic, we get caught up in all our assignments and social drama and forget to slow down and appreciate the small things in life. No matter how busy our days may be, I think there’s always a point where we need a getaway, a disconnect, to clear our heads. I’m not talking about going on our phones to check Twitter or look at TikToks. I mean putting down the phone and going outside.
Basically everything in our lives revolves around our phones or computers. It’s just nice going somewhere. I don’t need anything but a good pair of shoes and a little sense of adventure.
When everything seems to start coming down at once and I begin to feel overwhelmed, I go outside. I’m a big fan of solitude and self-reflection. It works wonders. It helps me become more self-aware of my actions.
While I do recommend trying some quiet alone time, sometimes it’s better to talk to someone else, like a close friend, parent/guardian, or even a counselor here at school. If you didn’t know, we have a great staff that really cares and helps out so much.
But as I said before for me, I like being alone. Growing up, nature and adventure were always intertwined, so finding spots around here comes naturally to me. I know Arcadia is known for the cool-looking castle, but the area around Arcadia’s campus has plenty of spots that are just as cool. Here are some in case you’re inspired:
If you don’t want to leave campus, the gazebo by the Castle is a good one, as well as the pond by Easton Cafe. Another spot, which I refer to as “The Pit,” is next to the parking lot down-a-ways from Knight Hall, Taylor Hall, the Dome, and the Kuch Center. There’s a little winding creek and several benches and tables. It’s a good spot for homework or even hammocking (just ask Eli Aguirre; he’s a hammock expert).
Growing up, nature and adventure were always intertwined, so finding spots around here comes naturally to me.

If you crave more adventure than The Pit, I recommend following one of the creeks, like the one by The Pit or even the one that runs next to Oak Summit, until you can’t anymore! I have a few spots of my own, pictured here, but I won’t tell you where they are because I challenge you to find them, or better yet, create your own.
