Dance All Knight
A few weeks ago, before our lives got flipped upside down, Arcadia hosted its very first THON™ to raise money for kids with cancer. My roommates, Lydia Mossuto and Kelly Muntzenberger, convinced me to attend, and all I can say is: It did not disappoint.
You understand the importance when planning for it, and you gain a sense of community. It helps you feel part of something bigger than yourself, which is always amazing.

There were games, food, and LOTS of dancing. It was a fun way to spend a night, and at the end of it, the team not only reached their goal of $5000, but almost doubled it, reaching a total of $8,286.60! I felt great to be able to participate in something way bigger than myself. A couple days later, I sat down with Kelly and asked her a few question:
N: When did you first hear about THON?
K: I learned about it from my peer mentor, Kelsey Mashinski. I met her in my First-Year Seminar class, and we had to do a project for service. Kelsey mentioned to us that she wanted to start a club about THON, which I had always wanted to do.
N: How did Arcadia FTK become a club?
K: I was a senator for Arcadia’s Student Government Organization (SGO) when Kelsey and Hannah Grove presented the idea.I approved it, and really wanted to join. I was assigned social media and PR captain, which is how I met my co-captain, Maddy Walsh, who was also in our First-Year Seminar. We first started the basics in the spring semester, got our name out there, gained some followers, and this past fall we started planning, prepping, and posting weekly until it was time for the event.
N: What was your favorite part about the experience?
K: Definitely was making the posts for Instagram. I used the platform Canva, which had a bunch of different layouts to post. It really got me interested in advertising, because I never was really into web design. Also I loved the group itself—I made a lot of friends from the meetings, had some tense times, but we all got through it. In the end, we all came together with different ideas, and it blossomed.
N: What would you say to someone who was on the fence about joining?
K: Definitely do it, whether you are a co-captain, or a member, or an attendee. It’s an awesome experience for everyone involved, and something Arcadia needed to bring people together for a common cause. You understand the importance when planning for it, and you gain a sense of community. It helps you feel part of something bigger than yourself, which is always amazing.
