Mundane to Mojo: It’s All About Your Playlist
Looking to add some excitement to your daily routine? Music can bring the magic. It can take something as simple as walking to class and turn it into a cinematic experience.
Mindset is everything. To be the part, you gotta act the part, and to act the part, you gotta immerse yourself into the reality you want. The perfect playlist will take you there!
Ready to get there on time, ready to learn, and be the ultimate “academic weapon” on campus? Ditch the simple walk and go for a strut. Take the works of legends such as Rihanna and Megan Thee Stallion and channel them into the best hot girl walk you can muster.
Or picture this: It’s midnight, your roommate is asleep but you have another assignment to get done before you can hit the hay. You’re tired, you’re stressed, you just want to yell. But you can’t. It’s quiet hours.
What to do? If you ask me, when you can’t scream, the next best thing is listening to music that’ll do it for you. As far as songs to yell to, I’m a big fan of Y’all Want a Single by Korn, as well as any song from the American Wasteland album from Nascar Aloe.
Sometimes, it isn’t even an activity that needs a soundtrack. Sometimes, we just need to feel like the main character of a coming-of-age movie: snarky, intelligent, maybe a tad misunderstood. Having that tinge of angst can really do wonders for the psyche.
Whenever I want to get into the “main character” mood, I immediately reach for something with a more unique, other-worldly feel (the How to be a Human Being album from the Glass Animals is perfect for this). If you’re looking for some more angst, give “For the Damaged Coda” by Blonde Redhead.
Adding music into your everyday life can take each day to the next level.
So don’t just settle. Make the move. I challenge everyone to take command and create a playlist for something in your life: walking, running, cooking, cleaning, maybe even just people-watching in the Chat. Indulge yourself in the opportunities that music has to offer and see where it gets you.
With the popularity of streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, most college students have easy, readily available access to a vast library of music. Tap into it!
Having trouble finding a starting place or don’t feel like creating your own? Don’t worry, I got you. Playlists are available right now on Apple Music, under the account @izzar04.
Here are a few playlists that might be calling your name: Songs to Hot Girl Walk to Class to, Songs to Listen to While Being the Mysterious Main Character (on a Lawn Chair [on the Green]), Songs to Run to Class to (When You’re Late [Don’t be Late, You Silly Goose!]), and, of course, Songs to Play When I Want to Scream But Courtesy Hours Are 24/7.
What songs or titles do you think should be added to the sounds of student life?
