Featured Staffer: Ashley McCommesky!
In this article, we feature Ashley McComeskey, who is a Program Support Specialist in the Physical Therapy department. Ashley started at Arcadia in June 2017 and worked part-time supporting the tDPT program, an online program that offers physical therapists the opportunity to earn their DPT degree. In January, Ashley started full time and now also assists with the entry level DPT students on campus, primarily in admissions. She also supports administrative staff in the College of Health Sciences.
Ashley comes to Arcadia with a B.A. in English from Ursinus College and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Student Affairs in Higher Education. So far, much of her career has centered around providing support directly to students, with a particular focus on international students. Prior to Arcadia, Ashley served as an ESL Instructor, supported and counseled international students studying abroad in the United States as an intern at The Philadelphia Center, a Graduate Assistant in the International Office at Swarthmore College, and as a Resident Advisor for international high school students at Archbishop Ryan High School.
Her favorite things about Arcadia are her interactions with students and Arcadia’s focus on the student’s global experience. Ashley tells us that her personal experience with study abroad in Costa Rica and Ireland was formative for her because she had a challenge acclimating at first; now she is able to draw on this experience when supporting international students who are studying in the US.
Recently, Ashley attended a two-week international conference in Bonn, Germany, on Adlerian psychology. What’s unique about this professional development experience, however, is that Ashley received a full scholarship to attend. Ashley hopes to use the what she learned at the conference to help create parent education classes for her community, which will focus on how to develop social interest in children.
