Glenside once again is ready for the holiday season, courtesy of students from the Citizenship and the Law First-Year Seminar, led by the Honorable Christopher Cerski, JD, adjunct professor of Historical and Political Studies and Montgomery County District Judge. 

On Nov. 21, students took to the streets of Glenside to assemble and hang wreaths and garland, as well as string lights. Since 2014, Judge Cerski’s First-Year Seminar students have decorated the streets of Glenside as a form of community engagement. 

“This course is designed to teach students what I consider the four characteristics of an engaged citizen,” said Judge Cerski. To him, an engaged citizen is one who understands the institutions of government, who has knowledge of the history and policy surrounding cultural norms, who has an intellectual curiosity about the issues and culture surrounding them, and who seeks to make a difference in their community. 

“This service project is intended to help my students achieve the 4th characteristic,” Judge Cerski added. “In the end, the students always enjoy the experience.”
