The University’s mission and longstanding tradition of academic excellence, cutting-edge innovation, and groundbreaking initiatives have been embodied in our devoted alumni. In particular, one alumna  emphasizes service to her community through dedicated leadership.

She has given her time and talent for the last 15 years, and she also is a proud member of Knights of the Round Table (KORT). She serves on the Board of Trustees of The Seeing Eye, Inc., a 501(c)(3) in New Jersey. The Seeing Eye has as its mission to enhance the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye® dogs. We celebrate Peggy during National Volunteer Month and applaud her support of  others through the gift of her time, talent, wisdom, and treasure.

Margaret “Peggy” Grow ‘74, holds a BA in Spanish from Beaver College. She has had a long and successful career in events management for the travel and pharmaceutical industries (Pan American Airways, American Home Products, Pfizer),  retiring from corporate life in 2020. Long before her retirement, her love for dogs and the mission of The Seeing Eye led her to become a volunteer in 2003.  Her connection to The Seeing Eye has persisted for 19 years, showing no signs of ending. She also participates in animal-assisted interventions with retired guide dogs, including two of her former foster puppies. It’s evident that providing comfort, kindness and hope to patients and their families is something that Grow ‘74 has continued to foster passion for after her time on Glenside’s campus.

At Arcadia, we believe in cultivating leaders who can create systemic change where they are coupled with the pursuit of real and lasting social justice throughout our society. It’s no coincidence that Grow ‘74 has immersed herself in an organization that upholds the same values that were ingrained during her time at the University.

Her decades-long involvement with dogs expanded beyond The Seeing Eye. For seven years, she was manager of the Soothing Paws Program for animal-assisted interventions at the Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. She also volunteers as a tutor through Literacy Volunteers of Morris County, and telephone reassurance calls through Jewish Family Service. She and her husband, Steve, live in Morristown with their three dogs Polar, and retired guide dogs Trevor and Kelly (pictured above).

Our Arcadia University and Beaver College community is growing in strength and the University is so proud to have its constituents continue in service to others around the world. We would love for our alumni to share with us how they’ve been active participants in their communities.
