Charter Day

Honor our history of 170 years of excellence

From the very beginning, our founders envisioned Beaver College and Arcadia University’s timeless purpose: to educate our students to become great achievers, venture beyond our community, and leave their mark on the world.

On December 28, 1853, the University was granted its charter and the educational experience ventured forward.

Application for a charter of incorporation for a “Seminary of Learning for the education of female youths in the Arts, Sciences and useful literature” was granted [by Beaver County on] December 28, 1853, and a board of trustees was elected.”

To commemorate this momentous day, Brigette A. Bryant, Vice President of Development and Alumni Engagement, penned a remarkable poem reflecting on the rich history of Beaver College and Arcadia University.
