Iliana Correa ’23, a Chemistry major and Sociology minor at Arcadia University, received special recognition from the Philadelphia Regional Institute for STEM Educators (PRISE) in March. Correa was awarded a PRISE Student STEM Educator Recognition Prize and invited to present a poster at Temple University on March 18. 

In that poster, Correa dissected her teaching fellowship at Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia, during which she taught 7th graders science and puzzles, and currently teaches math. “I helped students discover who they were as learners,” she wrote on her poster. “I learned the strongest quality in a teacher was to be adaptable.”

Correa is pursuing fellowship opportunities to serve as a teacher in an independent school for the next two years and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in chemical or science education. She previously completed a summer fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer, where she co-authored two scientific journal articles.

At Arcadia, Correa is also in the Honors program and serves as a general Chemistry tutor and the department liaison for the Learning Research Network. She says her favorite memories from her time at Arcadia have been traveling to London as a student in the First-Year Study Abroad Experience (FYSAE) program and getting to know the general chemistry students she has tutored over the years.
