Dr. Favian Martín Explores the Haunting Legend of the Jersey Devil on the Grim Philly Podcast
Dr. Favian Martín, an associate professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, was one of several area scholars who appeared recently on the podcast Grim Philly to discuss the Jersey Devil.
According to the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, the Jersey Devil is described as “a kangaroo-like creature with the face of a horse, the head of a dog, bat-like wings, horns, and a tail.” It was designated in 1938 as the country’s only state demon.
Martín contributed to several dimensions of the podcast, ranging from indigenous interpretations of the creature to witches and witchcraft during the colonial era.
