Dr. Comfort Olorunsaiye, assistant professor of Public Health at Arcadia University, published a study protocol article in the science research journal, PLOS ONE. 

Titled “Mapping the evidence on factors related to postpartum contraception among sub-Saharan African immigrant and refugee women in the United States of America: A scoping review protocol,” the review will examine the existing literature on postpartum contraception for these women, using databases like PubMed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, and the Global Health Database. Landman Library Assistant Professor Jon Drucker assisted Dr. Olorunsaiye in developing the search strategy that was used for the review protocol.

As sub-Saharan African immigrant and refugee populations continue to grow in the U.S., this scoping review will highlight the challenges they face in accessing effective and culturally acceptable sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care. This work is expected to inform advocacy, program development, and policy-making, improving SRH care and optimizing interpregnancy intervals for sub-Saharan African immigrants in the U.S.
