Sports Physical Therapy Residency

The mission of the Arcadia University Sports Physical Therapy Residency is to develop and produce expert physical therapists for a life of scholarship, service, and professional contribution. These graduates will provide best practice using evidence in the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcomes of sports-related conditions that lead to injury. Graduates of the residency program will demonstrate competency in compliance with the Description of Specialty Practice and Description of Residency Practice for Sports as described by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Graduates will demonstrate understanding of how social determinants of health may impact rehabilitation and community outreach programs. 

This planned program of post-professional education is designed to advance the knowledge and skills of the physical therapist in sports-specific content to best support enhanced patient care through clinical mentorship and didactic education. The program will work to guide and promote growth of physical therapy residents and faculty in sports through on-going continuous improvement and strategic initiatives. The residency will provide sufficient content, knowledge and skills to prepare residents to pass the sports clinical specialization examination offered by the American Physical Therapy Association’s Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. 

The Sports Residency will collaborate with the Athletics Department to serve the University and local community for the management of athletic populations

Become an expert clinician and prepare to sit for the clinical specialization examination offered by the American Physical Therapy Association’s Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

The Arcadia University Sports Residency has been given candidacy status by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE). We have been approved to accept our first residents in January 2023.
