This course will highlight alternative payment models based on economics, policies, and past/present healthcare trends.
PBH510 Healthcare Systems and Public Health Policy: An Integrated Approach to Population Health
This course provides an integrated perspective of population health, covering healthcare systems and broader public health policies. It will familiarize students with the healthcare system in the U.S. and provide comparisons to healthcare systems internationally. Relevant understandings will include population health outcomes, spending on health, and determinants of health and disparities within and across countries. The course will also stimulate critical thinking about how systems can meet the challenges of cost, quality, and access.
This course will highlight the vital role of public health policies in addressing population health, including the concept of health in all policies. Students will be challenged to develop and evaluate public health policy using the PEEEL framework, which focuses on understanding politics, economics, ethics, epidemiology/health research, and law/government.

Theresa “Teta” Barry, M.H.A., Ph.D joined the School of Global Business faculty in 2015 following a decade of studying and teaching at Penn State, University Park. She is committed to engaging with students in an interactive, experiential learning environment at Arcadia University. As a gerontologist at heart, her passion for advocating for elderly people is evident in her extensive research on enhancing the quality of long-term care services. In addition, her clinical experience and background as a nursing home administrator offer a practical perspective on healthcare management issues.
