Undergraduate Summer Courses at Arcadia
Undergraduate students taking at least six credits combined over the course of all summer sessions are eligible for federal and state financial aid, provided they are matriculating in an Arcadia degree program. Because students pay on a per-credit basis during the summer, Arcadia scholarships and grants are not available during the summer.
Students can borrow through the Federal Direct Stafford Student Loan Program during the summer, but should note that summer borrowing does detract from annual borrowing eligibility. For example:
A dependent third-year student can borrow $7,500 per year in Federal Direct Stafford Loans. If the student borrows $2,500 in Federal Direct Stafford Loans during the summer, they will have $5,000 remaining to be split over the academic year.
Federal Pell Grant and PA State Grant awards can also be used during the summer, but the amounts used in the summer will also be deducted from lifetime eligibility amounts.
Private, alternative student loans and Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans can be used during the summer as well.
Summer Courses at Another University
Matriculating Arcadia undergraduates taking summer courses (that are required for their bachelor’s degree) at another college or university can have Arcadia process their federal and state aid during this period. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits over all summer sessions, and are required to:
- Submit an Approval for Non-Arcadia Courses form to the Registrar.
- Complete a Consortium Agreement, which must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office of the host college/university for completion and returned to Arcadia’s Financial Aid Office. The agreement will be sent to students who submit the Approval for Non-Arcadia Courses form.

Graduate Summer Courses
Graduate students taking at least six credits combined over the course of all summer sessions are eligible for Federal Direct Loans, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans, and private, alternative student loans, provided they are matriculating in a degree or certificate program.
Part-time graduate students taking one course each summer session will receive Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan funds in two disbursements, each no more than 10 days before the start of each course. Review the Summer Tuition Refund Policy for withdrawals. If a credit is created on the student’s account after tuition for all summer sessions is deducted (including tuition for future summer sessions a student is registered for), a refund will be issued within two weeks of the credit appearing on the student account.
