What is Act 48 and who does it apply to?
Act 48 of 1999 requires all Pennsylvania educators holding Pennsylvania public school certification (including Instructional I and II, Educational Specialist I and II, Administrative, Supervisory, Letters of Eligibility, and all vocational certificates) to participate in ongoing professional education.
Beginning July 1, 2000, Act 48 of 1999 requires persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years to maintain their certificate status as active whether employed or not.

How do I request Act 48?
To have your Arcadia coursework reported for Act 48, submit a Request for Act 48 Course Reporting.
ALLOW 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS for Arcadia to submit the information.
Your request must include your Personal Professional ID (PPID) to be processed. To retrieve your PPID visit the PA Department of Education’s Professional Education Record Management System (PERMS).
Act 48 Reporting of College Credit
Collegiate credits may be applied to the continuing education requirements earned during the current Act 48 compliance period. Up to six credits (2 courses) of successfully completed (grade ‘C’ or better) coursework taken at Arcadia University can be requested to be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education each year.

Act 45 and PA Inspired Leadership (PIL) Program Information
All of the preparation/certification, induction and continuing professional education of assistant principals and principals, assistant superintendents and superintendents, IU assistant executive directors and executive directors, and career and vocational technical school directors is governed by the provisions of Act 45. This legislation affects professional educators with administrative certificates who are employed in any of these positions on or after January 1, 2008.
