Joanna Simos, Student Life Officer (Athens), The College of Global Studies, received an Innovative Researcher for Foreign Learning Award from Amrita University in India. Joanna is engaged in a Doctorate of Professional Studies in educational psychology at Middlesex University. Her research concerns the learning process for those who are placed abroad against their will, refugees and immigrants, and focuses on the interaction of the learner with an imposed method of learning.

The selection committee at Amrita is interested in how Simos’s work might shed some light in geographical areas where the presence of the “other” influences learning. Simos has been invited by the Amrita School of Education to present a lecture in April, which will also be published in an anthology on the Psychology of Education.
