GLENSIDE, PA (April 28, 2012) – Haylee Molloy ’15, Jaclyn Feffer ’15 and Jenna Crothers ’14 each scored 4 times and Amalie Kreitman ’12 turned aside 9 saves to help guide Arcadia University to a 17-12 victory over visiting Misericordia University in Freedom Conference women’s lacrosse action.

Today’s win for Arcadia (8-9 overall, 2-4 FC) gives the team it’s eighth of the season, marking the first time since 1999 the program has enjoyed an eight-win campaign. The program has enjoyed success under second-year head coach Erin Livingston. 

This year’s squad, finishing fourth in draw controls per game, played a stingy defensive style and got solid goalkeeping throughout the season which has helped the Knights to finish second in goals-against (202) and first in both goals-against average (12.01) and save percentage (.464) against their Freedom Conference counterparts. Keepers Deanna Thompson ’13, Sarah Baumgardner ’13 and Kreitman all finished in the Freedom’s top five for save percentage.

Following an early season-ending injury to top scorer Meghan Fallon ’13 (27G, 12A, 39Pts), first year Haylee Molloy ’15 broke through as a top-five scorer in the league and was the focus of every opponent down the stretch.  Her 63-goal rookie season ranks second all-time in the history of the program. She also dished out 16 assists and finished with 79 pts, which ranks the first-year attacker second all-time for single-season points.

The team’s depth allowed other players to step up and provide consistent scoring, including league draw control leader Jaclyn Feffer ’15 (34G, 6A, 40Pts) and Jenna Crothers ’14 (35G, 18A, 53Pts). Four players posted 30+ point seasons with Katie Bauer ’14 finishing just two shy of her first 30+ point campaign. Bauer led the squad with 53 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers.

The team honored their four graduating seniors prior to the start of today’s season finale: Kreitman, Megan Madison ’12 who scored a goal in her final game, Stephanie Welch ’15 who scored twice and Stephanie Holguin ’12.

Holguin, a three-year member of the program, was forced to miss her senior season due to medical reasons but left her mark on the program record book for single-season goals (51 in 2011/3rd all-time), career goals (126/4th all-time), points (143/5th all-time) and single-game goals (8 scored against LVC in 2011/T-2nd all-time). 

Kreitman has racked up over 750 minutes in net and finished with 87 career saves and 6 wins.

Madison scored 5 goals as a mid-fielder with over 30 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. 

Welch, who played two seasons on the University’s women’s soccer team, contributed 12 goals in just 11 games played on the lacrosse team.

In the early going of Saturday’s game, the visiting Cougars scored first but the Knights countered with two for a 2-1 lead. Welch tied the game at 1-1 and Molloy put her team on top.  Misericordia would tie it at 2-2 on a free-position goal but then the Knights deposited three unanswered into the Cougar goal, another from Welch to break the stalemate and two from Feffer who trucked down the field uncontested and gave Arcadia a 4-2 lead with goals less than two minutes apart. The Cougars were able to hold the Knight’s lead to two, scoring two of their own, before Feffer closed first half scoring to keep Arcadia in front 6-4. 

The second half would start with a bang for the Knights with three straight scores, one from Bauer  just :53 seconds in and two from Crothers lifting Arcadia out to a five-goal advantage (9-5). That boost proved to be the difference maker, along with the goal keeping of Kreitman who made 3 critical stops in the second half to hold back Misericordia from challenging the Knight’s lead.

Saturday’s win marks the second-straight season the Knights have posted five home wins.
