Women’s Soccer Team Starts Season With Trophy, Regional Ranking
Freshman Kim Canfield’s father traveled from flood-ravaged New Jersey to see her first college soccer game—and her first goal as an Arcadia University Knight. The women’s soccer team posted its first win, 1-0, against Neumann University on Sept. 1. The win was the first stop in an opening week that would find the women holding both a trophy and a regional NCAA ranking.
The Knights took to the pitch two days later at Haverford College, host of the Women’s Soccer Kickoff Tournament. Both teams scored early in the first half, but the defenses settled in, and the game—and 20 minutes of overtime—ended in a 1-1 tie.
An amazing 11 penalty kicks later, the Knights won the shootout—and the opporunity to face Wilkes University on Sunday, Sept. 4. The Knights posted a 4-0 score against Wilkes as sophomore Sara Volk-Perez (athlete of the week) scored twice.
Parents and siblings cheered as the women posed with their tournament hardware.
The NCAA Mid-Atlantic Division III Regional Rankings released Sept. 6 showed the Arcadia Knights in fifth place.
This weekend, the women travel to New Jersey to face the second-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic, Johns Hopkins University, on Sunday, Sept. 11. Saturday’s opponent in the Drew Tournament is Ramapo College.
