Arcadia University offers many programs that satisfy the course requirements for admission to schools of medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, optometry, podiatry and other health-related fields. While Pre-Health students usually major in Biology or Chemistry, most schools will accept students with excellent records regardless of major, provided they have a solid foundation in the basic sciences and mathematics.
Arcadia’s Pre-Health advisers are available to guide students in completing the courses recommended for admission into medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine programs. Pre-Health advisers also assist students with the application process and choice of schools.
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) comprises the following sections:
Satisfactory performance on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required. The MCAT normally is taken in the spring of the junior year or the summer prior to the senior year for students planning to enter medical school immediately following graduation.

Elective Course
Study scientific literature with a focus on scientific design, limitations of experimental methods and analysis of results. Learn to evaluate and communicate scientific discoveries in both written and oral forms. Selected laboratory exercises will introduce you to various techniques used in modern biological experimentation and research writing skills.
Elective Course
Investigate the biomedical study of the structure and functions of mammalian cells, tissues and organs at the microscopic level. Laboratory sessions will include an extensive microscopic analysis and identification of the cells, tissues and organs.
Elective Course
Learn the Spanish needed for clinical, administrative, and out-patient work in health care. Study thematic vocabulary building, discussion of particular needs and expectations of the Hispanic community, and alternative medicine included. Role playing and practice in oral and written Spanish.
Arcadia University offers several routes for completion of the requirements for admission to schools of dentistry. While pre-dentistry students usually major in Biology or Chemistry, dental schools will accept students with excellent records regardless of major, provided they have a solid foundation in the basic sciences and mathematics.
Satisfactory performance on the Dental Admission Test (DAT) is required. The DAT normally is taken in the spring of the junior year or the summer prior to the senior year for students planning to enter dental school immediately following graduation.
Arcadia University offers several routes for completion of the requirements for admission to schools of veterinary medicine. A major in Biology or Chemistry is most commonly pursued by students interested in veterinary medicine, but schools will accept students with excellent records in other majors, provided they have adequate preparation in the basic sciences and mathematics.
Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for admission to veterinary school. The GRE may be taken in the spring or summer of the junior year or the fall of the senior year for students who plan to enter veterinary school immediately following graduation.
