Dr. Evan Cohen, associate professor of Physical Therapy, presented at the 22nd Annual Patricia Leahy Memorial Lecture on Sept. 22 on the use of blood flow restriction (BFR) training to improve muscle strength and functional mobility in those with multiple sclerosis (MS). The lecture took place at St. Joseph’s University.

Dr. Cohen’s scholarship has focused on adults with neurologic pathologies, and he has received multiple awards for his teaching and scholarship from organizations such as the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He recently published a case report describing the use of BFR in a person with the primary progressive type of MS, and he and colleagues recently completed an exploratory study examining the feasibility of BFR for people with MS with more severe disability and are preparing those findings for publication.

Dr. Cohen, who joined the Arcadia faculty in 2022, teaches Introduction to PT Theory and Practice, Clinical Simulation Experiences, and Integrated Patient Management, among other courses.
