You do not have to decide your major before you apply. You have time to explore your core courses, meet faculty, and discuss with your advisors which programs align with your passions.
If you are entering as an Undeclared first-year student, the Undergraduate Student Success Office will assign a professional advisor to you. You and your advisor can discuss the various programs and opportunities available within your interests and objectives. With this information, you and your advisor will approve the final selection of your courses each semester.
Once you make your official declaration of major early in the sophomore year, an advisor will be assigned to you from that program’s department.
Being Undeclared means you can take time exploring different majors. Our advising team will be there to help you make good choices as it relates to your academic plan. Most Undeclared students declare a major by the end of their first year.
You will work with a professional academic advisor during your time as an undeclared student. Our advising team will support you in making your major decisions, easing your transition to college, and navigating any challenges that arise.
Taking the time to explore a major will help you make a confident decision about your future. About half of all college students change their major, and being undeclared allows you to take your time, explore, and make the best informed decision.
Some programs do require you to declare a major as early as possible so that you can finish within 4 years. Check out these programs to see if one matches your interests and career goals:
