Saving as a Student
As a college student, I’ve spent a lot of time searching for inexpensive options while still being healthy, so here I am to tell you about some store and food options in the Glenside area that you might find helpful as a fellow college student.
I do the bulk of my food shopping at Aldi and Produce Junction. Aldi is just a 5-minute drive from campus on Ogontz Ave and has everything from basic groceries to cleaning supplies and sometimes even clothes. Aldi prices are generally much cheaper than other stores and you can find dupes for higher food brands that taste the same. Just this past weekend I got all of my groceries for about $25. Produce Junction is located on Easton Road just across the street from Oak Summit apartments. They sell fresh produce and plants/flowers at a low price, and they even have eggs. Not only is the produce fresh but it usually comes in a sizable quantity, and there is more variety in their produce products than most stores. They also have seasonal products like pumpkins in the fall and poinsettias in the winter.
New Life Thrift Store located just down Easton Road is a great place to go to get anything from new clothes to kitchen supplies and everything in between. In general, I’m a big thrifter. I moved up here from Florida, so I have thrifted most of my winter clothes and wasn’t able to bring a whole lot from home. Now that I live in an apartment, the thrift store is where I get almost all of my decor, kitchen supplies, lights, etc. New Life also offers a 10% discount to all Arcadia students when you show your school ID. There are many other thrift stores, available near campus and in your hometown, I advise looking them up to save yourself some extra money.
Lastly, I strongly advise utilizing rewards apps, especially with a Dunkin and a Wawa so close to campus. If you frequent these locations, or even just go a handful of times a year for four years, it doesn’t hurt to use the app to build points or receive a free item on your birthday!
