Following the work of the committee supporting the intent to form the Beaver College Foundation (BCF), Arcadia University has appointed three inaugural Board of Trustees members: Alison Madsen ‘85, Susan Smyth Shenker ‘69, and Lynne Cannon ‘68, a current Arcadia University Trustee. While Lynne will serve to provide continuity between the current University board and the Beaver College Foundation, Alison and Susan are former Arcadia Trustees in excellent standing, who have a deep and intimate knowledge of the University's potential through their recent board and volunteer service. Each has demonstrated a tremendous and consistent commitment to their alma mater, and will help guide BCF through its formation process, establishment, and initial operations.

The appointment of these BCF Trustees is just the latest step in the future establishment of BCF, whose genesis was an aspirational idea from Anne Westerfield ‘62 presented in January 2020.  Since then, the foundation has been moving toward a 2023 realization. BCF’s purpose will be to serve as a separate but related non-profit entity, whose sole mission will be to support the brightest possible future for Arcadia University through either transformative gifts or support for transformative projects. BCF is the manifestation of Arcadia’s deep commitment to Beaver College’s legacy, and is a concrete way to provide a tangible anchor for dramatic institutional transformation.

Once in place, BCF will focus on the enhancement of Arcadia’s student experience, ensure financial aid for students, encourage academic vibrancy throughout the academy, position Arcadia as an academic innovator, and anchor the University as a social mobility engine for students.

More updates about the intent to form BCF will be forthcoming in the weeks and months ahead.
